Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was an 18 year old worker on his parent's farm at Starkville in Oktibbeha County, MS. He enlisted at West Point, MS as a Private in the Company which became Company L, 2nd Mississippi Infantry Battalion on 12 May 1862. He and the Company joined the Battalion just before Manassas on 29 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was left behind sick at Frederick, MD and captured in September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled on 26 September and treated in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick to at least 22 October 1862. His service record says he was presumed to have died in October 1862, place not given.
