Before Sharpsburg

From Lowndes County, MS, he enlisted on 19 July 1861 at Columbus, MS as a Private in Captain Randle Blewett's Company (The Blewetts), later Company C, 2nd Mississippi Infantry Battalion. He was wounded by a gunshot at Gaines' Mill, VA on 27 June 1862 and furloughed home for 30 days on 11 July.

On the Campaign

He was wounded again, in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at Staunton, VA, admitted to a Richmond hospital on 18 October, and furloughed on 24 October 1862. He returned to duty by February 1863. He was mortally wounded at Spottsylvania Court House, VA on 12 May 1864 and died on 3 June 1864, possibly while a prisoner of war.
