Age 23, he enlisted and mustered as a Private in Company A, 16th Mississippi Infantry on 26 May 1861 in Corinth, MS.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the shoulder in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was sent home on wounded furlough in October, but was back with his Company by January 1863. He was captured near Fredericksburg, VA on 3 May 1864, briefly in Washington, DC, then sent to City Point, VA for exchange on 10 May. He was wounded again, at Cold Harbor, VA on 10 June 1864 and furloughed for 40 days, with no later military record.
