In 1860 he was a 21 year old school teacher living on the W.C. Maxwell farm at Monticello in Lawrence County, MS. He mustered as Private, Company B, 16th Mississippi Infantry, on 7 August 1861 in Lynchburg, VA.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg, MD on 17 September 1862.
