He enlisted on 26 April 1861 at Westville in Sampson County, MS and mustered as Private, Company B, 16th Mississippi Infantry, on 29 May 1861 in Corinth, MS.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action at Sharpsburg, MD on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was held at Fort Delaware to 2 October, when he was sent to Aikens Landing, VA for exchange. He was declared formally exchanged on 10 November but was sick in a Richmond, VA hospital with pneumonia to 27 November, then returned to duty. He was mortally wounded in the right arm at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863 and died of wounds in a Richmond hospital on 3 June 1863.
