In 1860 he was a 19 year old living with his grandmother Martha McGraw, mother Esther, and 8 siblings on their large farm in Wilkinson County, MS. He enlisted on 21 April 1861 in Woodville, MS and mustered as a Private in Company K of the 16th Mississippi Infantry on 27 May 1861 in Corinth.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg, MD on 17 September 1862.
