Age 18, he enlisted on 21 April 1861 in Woodville, MS and mustered on 27 May 1861 as a Private in Company K of the 16th Mississippi Infantry in Corinth, MS.

On the Campaign

He was listed as missing in action at Sharpsburg, MD on 17 September 1862, but had been captured nearby, at Boonsboro, MD.

The rest of the War

He was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October then sent to Aiken's Landing, VA for exchange. He was declared officially exchanged on 10 November 1862 and returned to his Company. He was appointed 5th Sergeant by April 1863 but was killed at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863.
