Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 16 year old living with his parents and siblings on their substantial family farm at Macon in Noxubee County, MS. Giving his age as 18, he mustered as a Private in Company A, 19th Mississippi Infantry at Macon, MS on 21 May 1861. He was wounded in May 1862, place not given. He was sick in hospitals in May, July, and August, but returned to his Company on 28 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His father Thornton K. Thompson filed for his final pay of $75.23 in January 1863.
