Before Sharpsburg

Age 19, he mustered as a Private in Company A, 12th Mississippi Infantry at Corinth, MS on 30 April 1861. He was wounded near Richmond, VA in late June 1862 and in a hospital in Charlottesville, VA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded again, in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He transferred to Company H of the 13th Virginia Cavalry on 12 February 1863. He was with his Company until captured at Richmond, VA on 11 April 1865. He was paroled there on 18 April 1865.
