Before Sharpsburg

Age 20, he enlisted on 28 April 1861 and mustered on 16 May 1861 as a Private in Company G, 19th Mississippi Infantry at Spring Port, MS. He was appointed First Corporal on 6 January 1862 and promoted to 5th Sergeant on 14 August.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was with his Company to 10 September 1864, when he was captured at Petersburg, VA. He was a prisoner at Point Lookout, MD to 1 November, then sent to City Point, VA for exchange. He was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
