Before Antietam

A 27 year old student in East Bridgewater, MA, he enlisted there on 18 May 1861 and mustered in as a Private in Company C, 29th Massachusetts Infantry on 22 May.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Sergeant on 10 April 1863 and wounded again, on the Wilderness Campaign in May 1864. He mustered out at the end of his term on 21 May 1864.

After the War

By 1871 and to at least 1881 he was a tailor in Inverness, Nova Scotia. He was probably back in Massachusetts by February 1886 when his daughter Rachel was born in Boston.

He married Unias Cameron (1840-1871) in Juy 1859 and they had 4 children; she died shortly after giving birth to daughter Unias. He married again, Ann McKinnon (1837-1875) in 1872. He married for the third time, Elizabeth Matilda Ross (1852-) in about 1877 and they had 4 more children.
