In 1860 he was a 17 year old farmer on his parent's modest place at Saunderstown in Pickens County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company D, 23rd Georgia Infantry on 31 August 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 and died later the same day.

His brother Americus Ves Pruces Jones (1844-1919) was also a Private in Company D.
