In 1860 he was a 20 year old farmer living on his parents substantial place at Jasper in Pickens County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company D, 23rd Georgia Infantry on 31 August 1861 at Camp McDonald in Kennesaw, GA.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of his wounds on 24 September 1862. His recently widowed mother Malinda filed for his final pay in March 1863.
