Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 15 year old farmer living with his parents and 6 siblings in Pickens County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company D, 23rd Georgia Infantry on 31 August 1861 at Camp McDonald in Kennesaw, GA. He was sick in Richmond, VA hospitals in May and June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His father Henry filed for his final pay in January 1863.
