Before Antietam

Age 32, he enlisted on 3 June 1861 on Long Island, NY and mustered in as a Private in Company E, 42nd New York Infantry on 22 June 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 27 September and sent on to Washington, DC on 9 November 1862. He reenlisted on 10 December 1863, was promoted to Sergeant, and was captured, place and date not given. While still a prisoner, he was transferred to Company E, 82nd New York Infantry on 28 June 1864. He was transferred again, to Company I, 59th New York on 10 July. He was captured at Ream's Station, VA on 25 August 1864 and died on Christmas Day, 1864 while a prisoner at Salisbury, NC.
