Age 20, he enlisted on 15 June 1861 in New York City, and mustered in as a Private in Company H, 42nd New York Infantry on 17 July.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Corporal, date not given, and was captured at Petersburg, VA on 22 June 1864. He was a prisoner in Richmond, VA by 25 June, then at Lynchburg on 29 June 1864, with no later record.
