Age 34, he enlisted on Long Island, NY and mustered in as a Corporal in Company I, 42nd New York Infantry on 22 June 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD and sent on to Baltimore on 23 September 1862.

He was captured at Petersburg, VA on 22 June 1864 and paroled on 20 November in Savannah, GA, but died on a steamship enroute to New York City on 23 November 1864.
