Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 31 year old store clerk at Smithville in Lee County, GA. He enrolled in Atlanta on 3 July 1861 as Captain of Company B, 11th Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He led a "wing" of 5 companies, about half the men in his regiment, in Maryland and between 11 and 16 September 1862 was in Martinsburg, VA detailed as a guard for General D. H. Hill's commissary train. The evening of the 16th he was ordered, along with the rest of the regiment, then at Shepherdstown, to Sharpsburg, but was held in Martinsburg by the provost marshal.

The rest of the War

He was killed in action at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863.
