Before the Antietam Campaign:
Age 26 at enlistment, he mustered in as private, Company C, on August 21, 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
Wounded in action, slightly, arm, on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Transferred to Company B on June 12, 1863. He re-enlisted as a veteran on December 21, 1863. He deserted on the expiration of veteran furlough, on February 5, 1864. His name is also borne as McGeehan, and McGhan.
