Before the Antietam Campaign:
Age 28 when he mustered in as second lieutenant, Company G, on September 24, 1861. Discharged on March 10, 1862. Mustered in as second lieutenant, same company, on April 8, 1862.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862, and died on 18 September.
