Before the Antietam Campaign:
Age 32 at enlistment, he mustered in as private, Company I, on October 11, 1861. Transferred to Company G on January 1, 1862.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action, body, on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He was again wounded in action, seriously, thigh, on December 13, 1862, at Fredericksburg, Va. He died of his wounds on January 14, 1863, at Lincoln Hospital, Washington, D. C. He appears in the Fredericksburg casualty list as corporal.
