Elected Captain, Company F. Known originally as "The Irish Infantry", a company from Carbon County, PA.
In the Antietam Campaign:
McGee assumed command of the Regiment on the 16th at the death of Col McNeil. Thompson states:
"Unsuited to the work of leading the regiment, he [McGee] permitted Adjutant Hartshorne to direct the men."
The remainder of the War:
Capt Dennis McGee, Company F; discharged 5/4/1863; reinstated; resigned 1865.
