In the Antietam Campaign:
Col Oakford was killed at the start of the Battle on September 17th, and LCol Wilcox assumed command.

The remainder of the War:
He was promoted to Colonel shortly after the battle as the Regiment was camped at Bolivar Heights above Harpers Ferry in October 1862. He fought at Fredericksburg in December, and was honorably discharged in January 1863 - Lieutenant Colonel Albright promoted to succeed him.
