Before the Antietam Campaign:
A 31 year old shoemaker living in Reading, he enlisted as Private on 2 September. 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was reported missing in action on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He transferred 24 July 1863 to the Veteran Reserve Corps. He mustered out of Company B, 14th Regiment, VRC on 2 September 1864.
