Before the Antietam Campaign:
He was a 22 year old shoemaker living in West Chelmsford when he enlisted as Private on 2 September 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He reenlisted as Sergeant on 16 February 1864, but died 28 May 1864 at Emory Hospital, Washington, DC of wounds received at Spottsylvania, Virginia on 18 May.
