He was a 23 year old shoemaker living in North Reading when he enlisted as Private on 2 September 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was listed as a deserter on 17 September 1862.

After the War:
He died before 1900, when his wife was enumerated in the Federal Census at Tewksbury as a widow.
