Before the Antietam Campaign:
He was a 30 year old shoemaker living in South Danvers when he enlisted as Private on 2 September 1861. He had previously served in Company H of the 5th Massachusetts Infantry, a 3-mothh unit.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He was discharged for wounds on 16 April 1863.

After the War:
He apprently never married. He worked as a shoemaker and resided with his father for the rest of his life. He committed suicide at age 63 by hanging himself, about a year after his father's death.
