Before the Antietam Campaign:
He was a student at the Baltimore Dental College in 1861 at the start of the War. He enlisted from Baltimore in April 1861 in Company G of the 2nd Georgia Infantry, joining his regiment sometime after.

The remainder of the War:
He was promoted to First Lieutenant in 1864, but was killed in action at the Wilderness on 6 May 1864 and "was buried nearby under an apple tree."
