Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 29 year old plumber and gasfitter in Savannah, GA. He enlisted in Augusta, GA as First Sergeant of Company G, 3rd Georgia Infantry on 26 April 1861 and was elected 2nd Lieutenant on 19 June 1862. He was acting regimental Adjutant in July.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was again appointed acting Adjutant in October 1862. He was wounded by a gunshot to his right hip at Manassas Gap, VA on 23 July 1863, and the bullet was not removed. He was disabled and on furlough or in hospitals to at least August 1864. He was probably retired on account of wounds.

After the War

By 1880 he was a news reporter in Baltimore, MD.
