He was "the youngest son of Thomas County Sheriff William Grissom Dekle, and Bethany Hollingsworth", and enlisted in Company F of the 50th Georgia Infantry, mustering as Jr. 2nd Lieutenant on 4 March 1862. He was elected 2nd Lieutenant 29 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
