He was "the youngest son of [the first] Thomas County Sheriff William Grissom Dekle (1796-1841) and Bethany Hollingsworth." He enrolled in Bainbridge, GA on 4 March 1862 and mustered as Junior 2nd (3rd) Lieutenant in Company F of the 50th Georgia Infantry. He was elected 2nd Lieutenant on 29 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His brother George filed a claim for his final pay in December 1862.

He married Susan Elizabeth Donaldson (1832-1911) in June 1853 and they had 2 children. Susan married again, in 1869, another Maryland Campaign veteran, Theodore N Billett - she was widowed for the second time at his death in 1898.
