He was captured in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Released December 18, 1862. Admitted to General Hospital at Petersburg, Virginia, with typhoid fever December 18, 1862. Furloughed for 60 days as a paroled prisoner. Killed in action at Chancellorsville 4 May 1863.
