Before the Antietam Campaign:
He was in Company K.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in the left thigh, necessitating amputation, at Sharpsburg, on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Captured at Shepherdstown, West Virginia, November 25, 1862. Paroled at Fort McHenry, Maryland, and received at City Point, Virginia, for exchange February 2, 1863. Admitted to General Hospital at Petersburg, Virginia, on account of amputation of leg, February 2, 1863. Furloughed for 90 days February 21, 1863. On duty as Conscript Officer in Georgia January 1865.
