In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action and captured at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Wounded at Knoxville, Tennessee, November 29, 1863; Wilderness, Virginia, May 6, 1864. Died in C. S. Hospital at Petersburg, Virginia, from gunshot fracture of 1st, 2nd and 3rd fingers left hand, resulting in amputation followed by erysipelas, July 5, 1864.
