Before the Antietam Campaign:
He was in Company K. - 1st Lieutenant - March 4, 1862. Elected Captain July 31, 1862.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was severely wounded, three fourths of lower jaw and teeth destroyed, at Sharpsburg while " defending bridge" on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Wounded again at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania July 3, 1863. Retired to Invalid Corps December 2, 1864. Appointed Enrolling Officer in Brooks County, Georgia, 1863 or 1864 and served until close of war.
