Before the Antietam Campaign: He was in Company K. - 1st Lieutenant - March 4, 1862. Elected Captain July 31, 1862. In the Antietam Campaign: He was severely wounded, three fourths of lower jaw and teeth destroyed, at Sharpsburg while " defending bridge" on 17 September 1862. The remainder of the War: Wounded again at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania July 3, 1863. Retired to Invalid Corps December 2, 1864.
