Appointed 2nd Sergeant March 23, 1863; Sergeant Major in 1864. Wounded at Petersburg, Virginia, June 19, 1864. Roll for February 28, 1865, last on file, shows him absent on furlough. Captured at Sailor's Creek, Virginia, April 6, 1865. Escaped April 9, 1865.
