Before the Antietam Campaign:
Enlisted as a private in Company K, 5th Regiment, Georgia State Troops October 6, 1861. Roll for April 25, 1862, last on file, shows him present. Mustered out April 1862. Enlisted as a private in Company A, 50th Regiment, Georgia Infantry June 7, 1862.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Appointed 3rd Sergeant March 1864. Roll for February 28, 1865, last on file, shows him present. Pension records show he surrendered at Appomattox, Virginia, April 9, 1865
