In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
In U. S. General Hospital, Philadelphia 9/27/1862 with head wound. To Fort Monroe 12/15/1862 for exchange. Appointed 2nd Corporal February 14, 1863; 3rd Sergeant. Wounded in action at Chancellorsville, Virginia, May 1863. Captured at Cashtown, Pennsylvania July 4, 1863. Took oath of allegiance to U. S. Government, and released at Point Lookout, Maryland on joining U. S. service, January 24, 1864.
