He was wounded in action and captured at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Admitted to Richmond hospital 10/19/1862 with gun shot wound. Sent from Fort McHenry, Maryland, to Fortress Monroe, Virginia, for exchange, and received at Aiken's Landing, Virginia, October 19, 1862. Received by Provost Marshal General, Washington, D. C., January 24, 1865. Took oath and furnished transportation to Jacksonville, Florida.
