In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action and captured at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Released at Philadelphia Hospital and sent to Knoxville, Tennessee, for exchange August 1864. In U.S. General Hospital Philadelphia 9/27/1862. Took Oath of Allegiance to Federal Government 10/18/1862. Pension records show he was at home on furlough close of war.
