He was age 24 when he enlisted in Bochester, and he mustered in as Private, Company I, 108th New York Infantry on 13 August 1862.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He was probably originally buried on the battlefield and reinterred in the National Cemetery during or before 1867.
