Before Antietam

He enlisted at age 18 as a Private in Company D of the First Delaware Infantry on 10 August 1861 at Milford, DE.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by a gunshot to his hip in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick on 23 September but died there on 28 October 1862.

After the War

He was originally buried in Frederick but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
