Before the Antietam Campaign:
He enlisted at age 25 on 15 June 1861 at Lowville, and mustered in as Private, Company B, 59th New York Infantry on 9 August.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He was reinterred from his original burial on the Antietam battlefield to the National Cemetery during or before 1867.
