A 32 year old painter from Lowell, he enlisted in Company F, 19th Massachusetts Infantry on 23 August 1861. He was reported missing in action having probably been captured at Glendale, VA on 30 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was reinterred from his original burial on the Antietam battlefield to the National Cemetery during or before 1867.
