A 40 year old mason from Brookline, he enlisted as a Private in Battery A of the First Massachusetts Light Artillery on 6 September 1861.

On the Campaign

He died of disease in Bakersville, MD on 4 October 1862.

After the War

He was originally buried in Bakersville but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
