Age 28, he was a gun maker from Leicester on enlistment in August 1862 in Company E, 15th Massachusetts Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds at a hospital in Hagerstown, MD on 22 September 1862. He was initially buried in a plot near the Alms House in Hagerstown. He was reinterred at the new Antietam National Cemetery in 1866-67.
