Age 27, he enlisted in Elmira, NY on 14 March 1862 as Private in Company F, 14th United States Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 21 October with chronic diarrhea and died there on 8 (or 28) December 1862.

After the War

He was originally buried in Frederick but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
