Before the Antietam Campaign:
He was in Company A, enlisting as Sergeant on 12 September 1861. .

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He died of his wounds, probably at Frederick where he was originally buried. Reinterred in Antietam National Cemetery later, but prior to 1867.
