On 25 April 1861, age 24, he enlisted in Amsterdam for two years and mustered as Private, Company B, 32nd New York Infantry on 31 May.

On the Campaign

He died of disease on 24 November 1862 at the Seminary hospital in Hagerstown, MD.

After the War

He was originally buried in Hagerstown but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
