Age 21, from Conway, NH, he enlisted on 12 July 1862 and mustered as Private, Company D, 9th New Hampshire Infantry on 28 July.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds in Middletown, MD on 17 (or 1) October 1862. He was reinterred from his original burial in Middletown to the new National Cemetery about 1867.
