Before the Antietam Campaign:
He enlisted in Thompson's Battery, Pennsylvania Artillery on 13 November 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The remainder of the War:
Died of wounds on 28 November 1862. He was later buried in the National Cemetery, sec. 26, lot B, grave 210.
